As a part of their visual aid package they use "Tweety Bird" to help demonstrate bus safety tips to the Developmental Kindergarten and Kindergarten students.
The program is divided into separate age groups DK, K, and 1st grade.
A video is presented to the young students entitled "Winnie the Pooh's Great School Bus Adventure," which teaches the dos and don'ts of bus safety. "Tweety" performs a skit where she does things wrong on the bus and is corrected. Later, the students get involved by telling what "Tweety" did wrong on the bus. In addition to teaching the proper and safe way to ride the bus, the students are also taught the "Danger Zone" of the bus and the safe and proper way to cross the street at a bus stop. All students are given a bus safety coloring book to help reinforce what they have learned.
The First grade class is shown a video "Bus Stops and Danger Zones." This is shown in the classroom. After the students have watched the video, it is discussed and they are encouraged to ask questions about anything they want to know about being safe on the bus.
Allendale Public Schools has conducted a bus safety program for over the last 14 years.
