Forty-eight Inducted into NHS Via Zoom

"Unprecedented," is how you might have described the AHS 2020 induction into the National Honor Society on May 7 — conducted for the first (and hopefully only) time via Zoom.

Principal VanderLaan

Fifteen juniors (senior class of 2021) and 33 sophomores (junior class of 2021) were inducted during the ceremony hosted by AHS Principal Troy VanderLaan.

"What a wonderful experience tonight!" Mr. VanderLaan commented in an email that accompanied a link to watch ceremony afterward. "Thank you so much for joining us as we recognized our NHS Inductees. Your teachers, parents, and peers are proud of you and the accomplishments you are achieving as Falcons and members of the National Honor Society."

NHS faculty advisors are Mr. MIke Sispera and Mrs. Robin Kline. Mr. Sispera opened the ceremony with welcome remarks, then each of the four graduating senior NHS members spoke on the four pillars of NHS:

  • Service - Makenna Schmuker  
  • Character - Micayla Timmer 
  • Scholarship - NHS AHS Chapter Vice President Cooper Allers
  • Leadership - NHS AHS Chapter President Sydney Shaw

AHS Art Teacher Mrs. Erin Overmyer delivered the keynote address. Following that, Assistant Principal Mrs. Heidi Mucha led the entire group in the reciting the National Honor Society pledge.

Adam Johnston and Anna Steele then read aloud the names of the inductees. The ceremony closed with remarks by Mr. Sispera.
