Other Enrollment Options

Allendale Public Schools wants all students to learn and grow! In addition to a wide variety of courses and programs in our schools, we also have other enrollment options for those outside Allendale or being educated at home.

Schools of Choice

Schools of Choice

The Schools-of-Choice provisions in Section 105 and 105c of the State School Aid Act allow local school districts to enroll non-resident students. Section 105 permits local school districts to enroll students who reside within the same intermediate school district (Ottawa Area Intermediate School District). Section 105c allows enrollment of students who reside in school districts in contiguous intermediate school districts.

(NOTE: This is a fillable form that can be downloaded, completed and signed using an Adobe application.)

Allendale Public Schools participates in both the Ottawa Area Intermediate School District (OAISD) Schools of Choice plan and the state authorized Section 105c plan.

SECTION 105 AND 105C APPLICATIONS FOR NEW STUDENTS WILL BE ACCEPTED MARCH 1ST OF THE PRECEDING SCHOOL YEAR THROUGH THE FIRST FRIDAY AFTER THE FIRST DAY OF THE FIRST SEMESTER OF THE SCHOOL YEAR APPLIED FOR.  APPLICATIONS FOR THE FIRST SEMESTER WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AFTER THE FIRST FRIDAY AFTER SCHOOL BEGINS.

SECTION 105 AND 105C APPLICATIONS FOR NEW STUDENTS APPLYING FOR 2ND SEMESTER WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO THE START OF SECOND SEMESTER, ENDING THE LAST FRIDAY BEFORE THE START OF SECOND SEMESTER. 2025/2026 SCHOOL YEAR DATES: JANUARY 5, 2026 - JANUARY 16, 2026.

SECTION 105 AND 105C APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AFTER THE FIRST DAY OF THE SECOND SEMESTER FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR APPLIED FOR.

Response time varies based on several factors including information requested from your child's previous school. Please note: Allendale Public Schools will work as quickly as possible to respond to your application. Applications received during summer months may take longer to process based on previous school verification.

The district may deny a new non-resident enrollment due to any of the following reasons:

  • The student was suspended from a previous school district within the past two school years.
  • The student was expelled from a previous school district.
  • The student has been convicted of a felony.

Important Considerations: Schools of Choice

Transportation is not provided for Schools-of-Choice enrollees.

A student enrolled under Section 105c is eligible or becomes eligible for special education services following enrollment. The enrolling district and the district of residence must have a written agreement regarding the payment of added costs of special education programs and services in order for the student to continue to be enrolled by a non-resident district.

A Schools-of-Choice high school student who does not meet an exception (e.g. full residential change) and transfers to another school will not be eligible in any sport for the next season that he or she played during the current year (scrimmage or game).  In sports not played in the previous season, the student would be eligible.  See this Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) rule summary or contact our athletic director directly. (Contact information available on the Athletics website.)

Home School Options

Home School Options

Allendale Public Schools is always willing to work with Home School parents and their children in providing learning opportunities. If you are interested in enrolling your Home-Schooled student for one class or more, please contact the building principal at the appropriate grade level (see our schools' web pages).

Home School students are welcome to take a partial schedule of classes at any one of our schools in non-core subjects such as, but not limited to, Art, Music (Band or Choir), Physical Education, Computer Literacy, Technology Education, Spanish or French, and Advanced Placement classes. Availability of classes is determined by the school's master schedule.

Home School students who are Grade 6 equivalent or higher, may also choose to enroll in online classes through the district's Cyber School. The district currently offers online courses. Please check with the Middle School or High School building Principal for information regarding online course offerings.

If a Home School family chooses to enroll a student for a full schedule of classes, the student will be given a placement test and a meeting will be held with parents and the building principal to discuss appropriate placement to insure the student's ongoing academic success.

Allendale Public Schools is a member of the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA). As such, the district is governed by the guidelines of MHSAA with regard to student participation in interscholastic athletics. In order for a Home School student to participate in an MHSAA-sanctioned sport, the student must be enrolled at APS for two-thirds of a full-time class load in grades 9-12 and half of a full-time class load in grades 7-8. For further information on our interscholastic athletic program, please contact Athletic Director, Jason Dykstra at 616-892-5590.

For more information on the Michigan Department of Education's guidelines for Home Schools, please read  Michigan Deparment of Education Home Schooling in Michigan.
